OVO is a hotel and apartment building compex coming into being in the centre of Wrocław. In the building characterised by its unique shape there will be among others a five-star hotel managed by the Hilton network, approximately 190 service apartments, swimming-pool, SPA, Health Club, underground parking lot and 3000 sq. metres of commercial space. The total cost of the investment exceeds 300 M PLN. In the future the facade of the complex building erected between the Galeria Dominikańska and the Main Post Office edifice will be covered with a glass curtain-wall. The primary architectural conception allowed for the application of Corian - unusually plastic material – for this purpose. It would superbly underline the computer generated OVO form. Until now Corian has similarly been used among others in France and Great Britain. Unfortunately in Poland it turned out to be impossible as it did not meet the rigorous building norms - Our basic purpose was to maintain a cylindrical shape of OVO therefore we consider several alternative variants of finishing the elevation – said the representative of the investor, Paul Adolph, director of the project from Wings Properties Company – After the analysis we saw that utilization of the glass coat gave the largest scope of possibilities. The curtain made of glass through application of the effect of transparency and semi-transparency allows to get unusually interesting visual impressions. Further the block of the building, resembling a space ship, will be also deprived of the edges.
