The level of inflation in Poland

As it was stated by NBP (the National Bank of Poland) base inflation, upon exclusion of prices of food and energy, was equal to 2,4% in January and 2.2% in February and 2.6% in January in year-over-year terms.

The index of increase of consumption services and prices (CPI inflation) increased 3.5% y/y in January and 2.9% in February while 3.5% in December y/y. Starting from March 2010 NBP has published four indices of base inflation: base inflation upon exclusion of administration prices which are not directly formed by market mechanisms; base inflation upon exclusion of most changeable prices which are particularly vulnerable to various kinds of demand and supply shocks; base inflation upon exclusion of food and energy costs; and 15% cut mean - weighted mean on a set of price groups accumulated weights of which - corresponding to previously ascending sorted prices indices - are higher than 15% and lower than 85%.

Then according to the data provided by NBP published in April 2010, prices of consumption goods and services in March increased by 0.3% in reference to the previous month and the annual inflation was equal to 2.6%. The largest increases were noted in the following categories: "transport" - by 8.4% y/y, "alcoholic beverages and tobacco products" - 7.7% y/y and "restaurants and hotels" - 3.8% y/y.
